Alvis "Al" R. Rochelle

Mr. Alvis “Al” Rochelle Jr., age 80 of Guthrie, passed away on Friday evening, October 14, 2016 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

 

He was born January 9, 1936 in Lebanon, Tennessee the son of the late Alvis R. Rochelle Sr. and Mary Nickell Rochelle.  He was a Lieutenant in the United States Army.  He retired from the Todd County Board of Education and had dedicated his life to the education of children.  He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University where he also was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame for his play from 1953 until 1958.  He was also a graduate of Trinity University where he earned his Master’s Degree and a graduate of Ole Miss where he earned his Doctorate Degree in Education.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as one brother Charles Rochelle (Becky).  He is survived by his wife Myrna Rochelle of Guthrie; two sons Russell Willis (Debbie) of Nashville and Alvis Rochelle III of Hopkinsville.  He also has one step-son John M. Dixon III (Linett) of Hopkinsville and one step-daughter Kathryn David (Stacey) of White House, Tennessee; one brother Marvin N. Rochelle (Judy) of Childersburg, AL and one sister LaRita Carmichael (Jimmy) of Jackson, TN.  Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and one great grandson.

 

Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 at the Cook-Webb Funeral Home.  Memorial service is scheduled to be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 in the Chapel of the Cook-Webb Funeral Home with family officiating.  Interment will be held at a later date at the Nickell Cemetery in Centerville, Tennessee.
