Smith “Smitty” Jefferson, age 70 of Louisville, Kentucky went to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Veterans Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was born on September 19, 1946 in Elkton, Kentucky to Malcolm and Rosa Martin Jefferson. He accepted Christ at an early age at 1st Baptist Church of Elkton. Smitty graduated from Todd County Training School in Elkton. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served his country as a Paratrooper from 1964-1970. Smitty was also a Vietnam Veteran. After he was Honorably Discharged, he decided to make Louisville, KY his home. He was employed at the Kentucky Truck Plant of Ford Motor Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, William Jefferson Sr., Charles Jefferson and Booker T. Jefferson.
He is survived by his 3 children, Timothy Jefferson of Dayton, Ohio, Sonya McDowell of Bowling Green, KY and Jamaal Williams of Louisville, KY; his grandchildren Brittany Jefferson, Amarion Jefferson, Kel’ve McDowell, DeAngela McDowell, Kiesha McDowell, Trey St. Rent; a sister Daisy Weatherby; brothers Eugene (Evelyn) Jefferson, James (Carol) Jefferson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation with the Jefferson family will be on Thursday from 10:00 until funeral service time at 12:00 at the Todd County Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 in the Rose Chapel of the Todd County Funeral Home with Rev. Ross Shanklin and Rev. Alex Shanklin officiating. Burial will be on a later date.
