Pauline "Polly" Meriwether Obituary

Pauline “Polly” Keller Meriwether, age 95 of Lexington and formerly of Guthrie, passed away on Monday, May 7th at Taylor Manor in Versailles, Kentucky from complications of Alzheimer’s.

She was born January 30, 1923 in Bowling Green, Kentucky the daughter of the late William Calvin and Ora Belle Horton Keller.

She was an active member of the Church of Christ all her life where she enjoyed many activities with friends and family including religious studies, social outreach and she always enjoyed cooking and eating the sweets at the bake sale.

Throughout her life, Polly had a successful career and many wonderful experiences.  After graduating from Bowling Green Business College, she was a teletype operator at Fort Campbell during World War II. Later, she was a book-keeper, PTA president, sales clerk, Girl Scout leader, Welcome-Wagon host, Property Manager for Baptist East Office Park and Doctors Office Building, and after retirement an AARP field representative.  Along with her husband, she volunteered at the VA.

Polly was focused on spending time with her family and among her many hobbies and interests were the Meriwether family history, antiques, crafts, sewing, and playing bridge.  Traveling was a favorite activity and she took many cruises all over Europe and the Caribbean.  She also enjoyed gardening and often had clippings of a favorite flower picked from her beds right next to a fresh plate of baked goodies for visitors and importantly, for herself.  Polly and her husband Richard enjoyed having their grandchildren over for weekly meals and opened their home to them while they were attending UK.

Polly led an active life and with each endeavor she brought her unshakeable enthusiasm and can do-attitude.  She will be remembered fondly by her family and will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Meriwether family cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband Richard “Dick” E. Meriwether (2007); two sons L. Michael Meriwether (1963) and John B. Meriwether (1975); brother Harry D. Keller (1965); sister Mildred Leeson (2002). She is survived by her son Walt Meriwether (Connie) of Lexington; daughter Margaret Taylor (Scott) of Lexington; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Visitation with the Meriwether family will be on Friday from 11:00 until funeral service time at 1:00 at the Cook-Webb Funeral Home with Paul Moore officiating.  Interment will follow at the Meriville Family Cemetery in Guthrie.
