The Todd County Funeral Home is honored to have been called to serve the family of Mr. Acton “Bill” Bryant Cohoon.
Mr. Acton "Bill" Bryant Cohoon, 97, of Todd County, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026.
He was born on November 5, 1928, to Blanche and Troy Cohoon in Big Rock, Tennessee. He graduated from Pembroke High School in 1947, where he played on the basketball team.
He met Mary Alice Chastain when he was 17 years old and they eloped on May 28, 1948, in what he described as his life’s “smartest decision.” After their marriage, they moved to Dothan, Alabama where he spent a year working for the telephone company before they returned to Todd County and he began his lifelong work as a farmer. They were blessed with 2 children, Pamella and Barry. Their long and loving marriage was an inspiration to many. At the time of Bill’s passing, he and Mary were just 10 days shy of their 78th wedding anniversary.
Influenced by his grandfather J.L. Dunn, Bill dearly loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ where he served as an elder for many decades. He found great joy in singing hymns and studying God's word, and his life was a living testament to his love for God, family, and community. A friend to all, Bill had a gift for storytelling and brought laughter and warmth to every gathering.
Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamella Cohoon Parks, and his daughter-in-law, Teri Shocklee Cohoon. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 77 years, Mary Alice Cohoon; his son, Barry Cohoon; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the Cohoon family will be on Tuesday, May 26th from 10:00 until service time at 11:00 in the Rose Chapel of the Todd County Funeral Home with Ethan Edens and Barry Cohoon officiating. Interment will follow at Edgewood Cemetery in Trenton.
