DEATH OF LOCAL INTEREST

Mr. Howard Rhea Hurt, age 90, of Paducah, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Howard, nicknamed “Muggins” was born on September 12, 1935, in Elkton, Kentucky, to the late Melvin Hurt and Fleeta Dill Hurt.

Howard was a devoted husband and loving father. Caring for his wife, Lynn was always a priority. He showed his love to his family not only through his words, but through constant support, compassion and unwavering dedication.

Howard carried himself with a quiet strength, integrity and kindness, always true to his word. He was a true gentleman until the end.

He was an avid hiker, cyclist, walker, and golfer who enjoyed staying active and spending time outdoors. His devotion to fitness enabled his to reach the bottom of the Grand Canyon on three different occasions. An accomplishment he was very proud of. He enjoyed many other adventurous hikes locally and throughout the United States.

Howard served his country proudly. He served in the United States Navy as well the United States Army, from which he retired. His military travels took him all over the world, he was very proud of his military service. After his military career he worked and retired from Special Metals in Princeton, KY and served and retired from the position of City Clerk in Princeton, KY.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Kristy Lynn Hurt; two sisters, Eunice Hegle and June Vass and one brother, James “Red” Hurt.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lynn Lacey Hurt of Paducah; his daughters, Donna Hurt of Nashville, TN and Karen Hurt of Elkton, KY; his son, Tony Hurt (Susan) of Cadiz, Ky; his stepdaughters, Tammy (Fraser) Johnstone of Lexington, KY, Susan (Jeff) Thomas of Paducah, KY and Lelia (Dave) Jackson of Aliso Viejo, California; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services, with full military honors, will be held in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Princeton, Kentucky.
