Jean Bland Malone

The Cook-Webb Funeral Home is honored to have been called to serve the family of Mrs. Jean Bland Malone.

Mrs. Jean Bland Malone, age 93, of Guthrie, passed away on Monday, July 31st at Ahava Healthcare in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Jean was born September 24, 1929, in Todd County, Kentucky. She was the youngest of seven children born to Howard and Mattie Maude Bland.

Jean was a lifetime resident of Guthrie, Kentucky. She graduated from Guthrie High School in 1947 and attended Austin Peay State College. She accepted a position with the United States Postal Service in Guthrie where she was promoted to the position of Postmaster for her last 15 years of service. After receiving many accolades, she retired in 1996.

In 1952, Jean married Henry Camp Malone and they celebrated their 71st anniversary on June 21st.

Guthrie Baptist Church played an important role in Jean’s life for over 80 years. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served in numerous capacities. She deeply loved the Lord and her church family. She was an integral part of numerous organizations and never met a stranger. Her kind and generous spirit will long be remembered.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Francis Waggoner, Virginia Swindell, Elizabeth Winbigler, Stewart “Doc” Bland, Lucille Ballinger and Peggy Posey. Her husband, Henry Camp Malone preceded her in death on July 28th. She is survived by her two children, Peggy Susan Tolbert (Bill) of Hermitage, Tennessee, and Henry Camp Malone II (Mary Wood) of Palmyra, Tennessee; one grandson, Jason Kyle Tolbert (Rachel) and one great granddaughter, Aurora June Tolbert. Jean is also survived by her beloved, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation with the Malone family will be on Thursday, August 3rd from 10:00 until funeral service time at 1:00 at the Guthrie Baptist Church with Reverend Kimbrough Simmons and Reverend Dave Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Guthrie.
