Josephine Foster Woodard, age 85 of Elkton, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday February 6, 2018 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY with her family by her side.
She was born January 11, 1933 in Allensville, Kentucky to the late Horace Bennie and Rosie Lee Foster. She enjoyed listening to Lee Williams & the Spiritual QC’s, Quilting, Cooking, Serving in the Church, and spending time with her family.
At an early age she professed a hope in Christ and united with the Mount Zion CME Church in Elkton, KY where she served faithfully until her health began to fail. She was a choir member, president of the choir, president of the stewardess, missionary, and mother of the Church.
She graduated from Todd County Training in 1951 and later went to work for Emerson Electric in Russellville, KY from which she retired in 1993 after 20 years of service.
On October 6th, 1951 she united in holy matrimony with John Thomas Woodard. To this union 10 children were born.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, husband, daughter Priscilla Ann Woodard, son William Russell Woodard, sister Mable Jean Foster, great grandson Deparis and great-great granddaughter Andraya Woodard.
She is survived by Four daughters Johnetta (James) Mosby of Allensville, Kentucky, Deborah Lynne Woodard, Gwendolyn Mae Woodard, and Wanda Shea (Roger) Woodard- Hines of Elkton, KY. Four Sons Edgar Thomas (Lisa) Woodard of Pontiac, Michigan, Anthony Wayne (Dorlene) Woodard of Allensville, KY, Gary Malcom Woodard of Russellville, KY and Ronald Joseph (Gwendolyn) Woodard of Lithonia, Georgia. Four Brothers Horace (Thelma) Foster, John (Brenda) Foster of Elkton, KY. William (Charlene) Foster of Louisville, KY and Samuel (Flossie) Foster of Allensville, KY. Three Sisters Polly Ann Glass, Mary Evelyn Stovall of Elkton, KY, and Rosie Savonia Martin of Bowling Green, KY. Seventeen Grandchildren, Twenty-Six Great Grandchildren, and Nine Great-Great Grandchildren.
In her last days she faithfully served the Lord in spite of her failing health she always knew that one day she would be healed.
Visitation with the Woodard family will be on Saturday from 12:00 until funeral service time at 2:00 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Allensville with Rev. Tammy Acree officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
