The Todd County Funeral Home is honored to have been called to serve the family of Mr. Paul Winburn Martin, Sr.
Mr. Paul Winburn Martin, Sr., age 84 of Allegre, passed away on Thursday, September 18th at the Shady Lawn Nursing & Rehab in Cadiz, Kentucky under the care of Pennyroyal Hospice.
Paul was born October 6, 1940, in Todd County, Kentucky, son of the late Chester Martin and Ellis Shanklin Martin.
He was a member of Bellview Baptist Church and served in the United States Army, with most of his time being served in Munich, Germany where we he worked on Huey Helicopters. Paul never met a stranger. He had a big heart and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was a philosopher, inventor, avid reader, and a welder that many farmers depended on for over 50 years. He could build anything, discuss any topic and had a gift for canning and cooking. He knew a lot about the Bible and enjoyed sharing his faith and tearful testimony with others. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and cared for him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anita Sue Martin; a son, Bobby Robinson Martin; a daughter, Melinda Sue Martin; four brothers, J.G. Martin, George Morris Martin, Odell Martin and Howard Dean Martin and a sister, Naomi Wyatt. He is survived by two sons, Paul Winburn “P.W.” Martin (Tracey) and Kevin Dukes (Amber) both of Elkton; a daughter, Paula Martin Lamar of Owensboro, Kentucky and a sister, Janet Dunn of Allegre. He was Papaw to several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also, surviving are several nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Visitation with the Martin family will be on Tuesday, September 23rd from 5:00 until 8:00 at the Todd County Funeral Home. Funeral service is scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday, September 24th at 11:00 in the Rose Chapel of the Todd County Funeral Home with Shane Hessey officiating. Interment will follow at the McColpin Cemetery in Allegre.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, National Down Syndrome Society or an organization of your choice.
