Sgt. Horace Foster Obituary

Sgt. Horace “June” Foster, age 90 of Allensville, passed away on Saturday, July 30th at his home of natural causes.

 

He was born on February 21, 1932, in Allensville, Kentucky to the late Horace Bennie Foster and Rosie Lee Byars. He was the first of the nine children to be born into this union.

 

Horace confessed his love for Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Zion CME Church congregation. There he served as the Sunday School Superintendent, Choir member, Trustee, Steward, a member of the Finance Committee and Janitor.

 

Horace began his education in Penickstown for 5 years in a one room building, then continuing on to Allensville for 1 year which was a 2-room school and then finishing up at Todd County Training School where he completed his 12 years of education.

 

Horace was drafted into the military in 1952. He ranked as 2nd Tec Sergeant of the 160th Infantry in headquarters. He was a 2-year Korean War Veteran. After his military service was complete, he was employed as a sharecropper on Harper Farms in Allensville, Kentucky until his health declined.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Karl Jeffrey and two sisters, Mabel Jean Foster and Josephine Woodard of Elkton.

 

He leaves to cherish in his loving memory, his wife, Thelma Louise Kilgore Foster; two daughters, Vivian Webb (Samuel) of Louisville, KY and Angela Grinter (Larry) of Elkton; a son, William Thomas Fuqua of Louisville, KY; three sisters, Polly Glass, Mary Stovall both of Elkton and Rosie Martin of Auburn, KY; three brothers, John Foster (Brenda) of Elkton, Samuel Foster (Flossie) of Allensville, KY and William Foster (Charlene) of Louisville, KY; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 at the Todd County Funeral Home. Funeral service is scheduled to be conducted on Friday at 11:00 in the Rose Chapel of the Todd County Funeral Home with Rev. Tammy Acree officiating and eulogy by Pastor Terry Foster. Interment will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
