The Cook-Webb Funeral Home is honored to have been called to serve the family of Mr. William “Walt” Walton Meriwether.

Mr. William “Walt” Walton Meriwether, age 74 passed away peacefully at home in Lexington, Kentucky on Tuesday, December 31st. Walt was a devoted family man, a proud patriot, and a skilled craftsman whose kindness, generosity, and industrious spirit touched all who knew him.

Walt was born in Clarksville, Tennessee on March 20, 1950. He graduated from Greenville High School and continued his education at Western Kentucky University and Madisonville Community College. He honorably served his country in the United States Army and later in the Army Reserves and the Kentucky National Guard. Walt’s military career included two tours in Afghanistan. He remained committed to supporting his fellow service members through his volunteer work with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

In addition to his military service, Walt had a diverse civilian career that highlighted his many talents and skills, including his passion for music as a Radio DJ, his skills in leadership and interpersonal relationships as a retail manager and in civilian roles with the Army as a supply and logistics coordinator.

Outside of work, he pursued many interests and passions, including woodworking, crafts, and historic preservation. He was an active member of the historical Meriwether Society, and he learned and practiced techniques of the preservation of historic cemeteries. Walt’s generous spirit was evident in his willingness to lend a hand to family, friends, and neighbors, whether through helping with projects or offering a kind word and a hearty laugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Dick” Earl Meriwether (2007) and Pauline “Polly” Keller Meriwether (2018) and his brothers, L. Michael Meriwether (1963) and John B. Meriwether (1975).
